This is my pic of the knot. Maybe I should have tried to take a pic of the cover, but this looks like it. In fact, the 'cropping' is quite similar to the way it appeared on the cover.

What is interesting to me, is that why have we not seen this bend in any of the books? Why is PMI showing this knot if it is not being used fairly frequently? Why go to the trouble to display an obscure knot? Why isn't it appearing in knot books, etc.? Why would you want to use it?

Here's another pic; this is on p. 55 of the catalog. This is a pic of a pic, and it didn't turn out that well, but, presumably it was tied by a professional.

What is it?

I wondered the same thing when I first saw the new catalog. I stared at it for an hour trying to figure out how it was tied. Is it a bend of some kind?

It is a bend. Actually, it's a sheet bend with a second wrap/turn, backed up by a fisherman's bend. If the knot doesn't jam under load, it should be very easy to untie.

Well it seems we were wrong. I emailed PMI and asked what it was. I got a reply pretty quick. They said it is a bowline with double overhand lock. It must be a double turn bowline. I tried it and shur-nuf it looked like the picture on the cover.

In the pic on their catalog, they did not show the ends or tails, so it would be impossible to tell whether it was a bowline with an extra turn or a sheet bend with an extra turn, they would both look exactly alike if the ends and/or the loop of the bowline was shown, and it wasn't.

So now we know for sure, glad you called them. I started to and figured they wouldn't know at this point.

What I show in the pic in the OP, looks exactly like their pic, but it's a sheet bend instead of a bowline.

Very interesting.

You know what I noticed when I looked at the picture?

A metal to metal to metal to metal connection.

OH THE HORROR!!!!
