 Pear Link Rotation
Moss, You've addressed pear screw link rotating to small end up in your photos I've recently seen. Images here http://www.flickr.com/photos/naturejournal/sets/72157611485939605/ show one method, and images here http://treeclimbing.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=49&func=view&catid=278&id=135762 looks like a different arrangement. What do you find works best? I'm in a NT Pro Gear, and during a climb when I take tension off the link, quick as a rabbit it'll flip around to small end up. Thanks for your opinion, but all other opinions are welcome!

 Re: Pear Link Rotation
Second option is what I use now: vinyl tape wrap to tighten the NT harness soft eye pear attachment point Also a new technique to keep the eye down on one side of the pear, instead of wrapping a bunch of vinyl tape on the pear which eventually pushes up I now cut a short piece (about 3/4") of Big Shot tubing (by the foot from treestuff.com) and slice it open on one side, slip it on to the pear instead of trying to slide it over the threaded end, and wrap it tight approx three wraps of vinyl tape, doesn't budge. On the side of the pear with the nut I tighten the harness eye with vinyl tape below the nut to keep it from moving up on that side. Let me know if any of that doesn't make sense. -AJ

 Re: Pear Link Rotation
That makes sense. I like your idea of slitting the tube to fit the pear. I have a piece of a pvc fitting that I slid around the pear and over top of several wraps of vinyl tape, then taped over. I only just did this (based on what I had surmised from your photo), so I'l see how long that stays put.
The only issue I have to overcome is that the eyes aren't long enough on my harness to easily make it over my hips unless the pear rotates 90° or the pear is opened & released from one of the eyes. I don't like to remove the pear (I like the pear nut more than hand tight), so I'm going to leave just enough room on the taped eyes for a deliberate manual rotation of the pear. Well, that's the plan, anyway.
I wish there were a bit more material length to the eye straps, but once the saddle is on, it fits just fine.
Thanks for the help.

 Re: Pear Link Rotation
I used white vinyl rigging tape & it did the trick. The lump on the pear link was a piece of a PVC pipe fitting.... a little ugly, but it worked. Thanks for the help!

Hey, the tail on the left side of your hitch cord is wickedly short! Everyone's a critic Glad it worked. -AJ

 Re: Pear Link Rotation
Wickedly short? Don't you mean wicked short? At least that's the correct dialect from my part of Cow Hampshire! Nah... It will never suck back through and release the scaffold knot. The end of the hitch line is whipped, so perhaps it's an optical illusion. I super glue my whippings too, so the last 1" of line is pretty stiff and won't easily snake back through the knot. The hitch line at the other scaffold knot is a lot longer since I was adjusting the length. Here's a picture before I adjusted length & it shows the scaffold knots better.

They look just right to me - especially it that's the set and loaded length.

 Re: Pear Link Rotation
With glued and whipped ends they are wicked(ly) ok. I don't whip or glue the ends therefore... I like the tails a bit longer so the core doesn't sneak down on me. The way I set my Scaffold knots now the core doesn't slip anyway but I like to have margin for error. Out of habit I still squeeze the Scaffold tails with my fingertips to make sure the core is still where it should be.
Which part of Cow Hampshire are you in, we should climb sometime! Edit: Just saw you're in Wolfeboro. -AJ
