Boy! I had a good DRT climb yesterday...don't tell moss!!!
Well, I SRT'd in and switched to short, i.e. 5-6 foot DRT pitches. I was on PMI 10mm EzBend with 8mm BeeLine split-tails and used both ends of the rope. I used only arms and body thrusting to advance. The climb was in my front yard in a tree I haven't climbed in a while due to a nest. It was about 50° with a blowing wind - any less of a man would have succumbed to the hostile conditions (That was humor; it seems since the board has no sense of humor, so I'm forced to spell it out). I descended DRT using a Petzl Pirana (as a simple figure 8 device). My rope was only 94 feet long and I had to do three down pitches and my rope barely reached the ground then! Don't breath a word of this to moss - I'm not sure he could stand the shock hearing I actually climbed DRT and enjoyed it! It's funny how a simple climb can be so much fun.

Nooooo!!! Ron, the highly secretive ALL SRT ALL THE TIME COMPLIANCE ENFORCEMENT SWAT TEAM (a.k.a. ASRTATTCESWATT also known as "A$$ What?") will be invading your yard shortly, any suspected DRT gear will be confiscated, resistance is futile. Important thing is you had a good climb! -AJ

Take some slow deep breaths moss, maybe the symptoms will pass soon. Well that does it - no more day climbs. I'm doing my climbing in protective darkness! What was I thinking anyway! What if the neighbors had seen me! Worse what if Bruce Smith had driven by and seen me on 'two' ropes . Hmmm, where'd I leave those black pants and shirt and ski mask...

Re: Boy! I had a good DRT climb yesterday...don't tell moss!
We shouldn't take this stuff too seriously. My purpose of '"Don't tell moss..." was merely light hearted humor. I figured moss would be all over me about being a 'closet' DRT climber since I 'talk' SRT so much. It was kinda like - the secret is out - I actually do climb DRT some.
Bruce has had knee replacement surgery; I doubt he climbs at all now. I'm not aware that he has ever climbed on a DRT setting. His world pretty much dictates SRT.

Hunabku wrote: 10mm. Sheesh could you have picked a bigger rope????? Well, at least I'm not climbing on that 9mm EzBend kite string you climb on. Actually I climbed on 9mm the climb before this one, then this time it was 10mm, next climb (tomorrow I hope if I don't sink down in the mud and/or it's finally stopped raining) will be 11mm. All EzBend of course. I suppose many do the same thing with their arborist rope though, you know, Tachyon/Bandit 9mm one climb, Tachyon/Bandit 10mm the next climb, and Tachyon/Bandit 11mm the next climb. It's probably best to do it that way so one can acclimate to the massive and heavy ropes that would tear muscles without the acclimation process. I mentioned climbing on PMI 7mm Tuff Cord didn't I? Boy, it was like climbing on a bungee - and that was on DRT at that. I did that late at night so no one would know.

This made me laugh out loud, but then I realized it wasn't a joke.

Re: Boy! I had a good DRT climb yesterday...don't tell moss!
I now understand how so many of you have secummed to the peer pressures on this forum. I'm not allowing these subliminal messages to weaken me. I bought 150' of Bandit a while back and then all this talk about Ez-Bend started Every time I setup an SRT entry, I think "boy wouldn't it be nice for that rope to run through the ascenders on the first stroke"! I was thinking about a 60' piece of 9mm for my canopy DdRT setup but then I think maybe I'll cut the Bandit and buy some Ez-bend for the SRT rope????? I don't know. All I do know is that every time I get on here I want something else when in reality I can do everything I want or need to do with what I have.... Dan
