Post Is it possible to slide out of a harness
Did a group climb and while in the tree watching a father and son in the treeboat- the son starts sliding the leg straps down- father immediately says what are you doing? son stops and says I was just going to take it (the leg strap part) off for a bit. 'No's all round.
This got me thinking- is it possible for a flexible kid to slide their legs out of a NT kids saddle? I don't think they could get out completely.
I know most don't have the strength to undo the delta, and they only get tighter as the climb goes on.

Anything is possible. That's where the facilitator comes in, has to monitor what's going on and intervene as needed to maintain safety.

People/kids in a hammock are a special case, it's the only time where a person has the opportunity to undo things. When their weight's on the rope it's very difficult to start taking the harness apart, undo deltas, carabiners etc.

That's why whenever their feet are on the tree I'm always telling them to push the hitch up,take the slack out of the system. Hammock is a little different, they need to slack to sit back in the hammock. When anyone's in a hammock you have to pay closer attention to them.

Moss- I agree,
Is it your standard practice to have a facilitator in the tree every time a hamock is installed?

I don't have strict rule abut it but I like to have an experienced climber up in the tree when there is a hammock installed.

I don't install hammocks too often for facilitated climbs, I usually have my hands full getting all the ropes in etc. I like to use hammocks when there is a small number of climbers (2-4), then I usually climb up with them hammock or not.
