Tanglewood Park Rendezvous- Bring It On!

We I just cannot believe how pretty a site this place is and what a great venue for the 2009 Rendezvous.

I believe that more and more people will be attending and you sure can’t complain about the price.

Bob Wray called to say spread the word that the price is right and the site is priceless.

WOW! He said $125pp for the 3 day event fee; free camping and only $100pp if you want to sleep in a cabin. Others that you know and even those you will just met. These are basic cabins nothing like a motel room.

There is an amphitheater where to camp and cabins near the lake that some of kitchens. So speaking of food Stan, Becki and I are requesting volunteers to help with maybe three breakfasts and for sure the Saturday Night Party. We are thinking that those with kitchens can have elect to cook on breakfast for the campers and Tree Boaters so all a welcome to post comments and concerns.

Seems like this year’s party will have quite the expectations to exceed when compared to last year’s party- just what is not to like about- music, campfires, sea shanties; fire-dancing and hula-hooping. The Pathfinders told me that they are bringing challenge games that adults of all ages will enjoy. Of course we want only your “A” game so think of your special skills, passion, calling, and stupid pet trick and Bring it On!

See you at the top,
Dan

Hi Gang,
Dan beat me to the punch on the Rendezvous announcement, no problem Dan and thanks.

A couple of corrections: the event is 5 days not 3 and at this point we cannot have fires. BUT, I am working on that, so don't panic yet!! The price of $125 will include a T-Shirt but NO food. The dates are OCT. 1 - 5, 2009. The cabins are not Hiltons but they overlook the lake in a wonderful central location amongst the highest concentration of large trees on the property, maybe? I am still looking around. You will be bunking with other people and the rooms are somewhat small. They do have furnished kitchens and bed linens. Actually pretty sweet for only $100 for 4 nights. We have an all girls cabin that sleeps 7 and 3 that sleep 5. I will have a list of motels just up the street shortly. Also, if you are flying in, the Greensboro/High Point/Winston Airport (GSO) is about 30 minutes or less from Tanglewood.

*NOTE: I have to pay for the rental of this place the first of MAY. So PLEASE send me a check or money order by mid April, PLEASE!! See address below. At this price I need a very large number of climbers to get to the break even point.

I need a couple of people to bring projectors so that we can view presentations and I am thinking about having a photo contest. I have a universal card reader that will take all photo memory cards. We might need a spare one of those as well. If you have a projector I need to know about screen requirements. So, give me a call to discuss that. The amphitheater is huge and will make a great place to watch movies and slide shows.

If you are interested in coming to Tanglewood in the next few weeks to map out the tree groves please let me know so that I can set a date. I want to get there before the leaves get on the trees. I can do this alone but it would be more fun with a few people!
If you want to volunteer or need any more information please email or give me a call. I prefer the phone.
Thanks everyone,
Bob Wray

Post 2009 Rendezvous Trek
I have wondering if anyone has a guesstimate of potential attendance to this year's Rendezvous.
I was trying to start a Short Survey but it would take a new Post ( Something like this).

1. Definitely going
2. Still considering..... pending Gov. Finances in Washington.
3. Made the Travel plans and Bought & paid for the air tickets.
4. Not sure yet.
5. Not going

Maybe Bob has a better idea and can help us undecided folks make up our minds.

This would be my 7th Rendezvous if I decide to participate.
Nebraska, Oregon, Canton-MS, FDR, Colorado, and Atlanta's TCI.

Post 2009 RENDEZVOUS - Update 2/19/09 All About The Trees
Hi Gang,
I have several individuals that are committed to both camping and cabins. I got 2 ladies for the girl's cabin this past weekend and the New Tribe crowd is coming. I cannot imagine missing this one! The trees at Tanglewood defie description! This place and this event is ALL ABOUT THE TREES. And I have priced this thing as low as possible. Yesterday I realized I left out the cost of the shirts, so now I need 10 more to break even. That said, I am convinced that I can reach the break even point. I want to encourage all of the instructors out there to get their new students to be sure and make this one. We will have great speakers and some of the best Rec climbers in the world. I will make a major effort to put experienced climbers with newbies. This is the best way to shorten that learning curve.
I got a deadline extension on my payment last week. So the BOTTOM LINE IS, I need to get the money for the event BEFORE THE END OF MAY. That gives you plenty of time to cash in those 201Ks <which used to be 401s~ or to sell those aluminum beer cans.
I am not the government, I cannot print money to pay for this one. So please send me a check as soon as possible. Reminder: Event Cost is $125 which includes camping and a bunk in a cabin is an additional $100.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Bob Wray
