Post 2009 RENDEZVOUS - OCT 1 - 5 Update
Hi Tree Huggers,
I am still nailing down all of the costs for this event but right now it will run closer to $100 than $200. To do that I will NOT be providing meals. Most people seem to be OK with that. Eating will probably take a back seat to climbing once you see this place. I am sure if I provided lunch hardly anyone would show up. I would actually encourage people to take a sandwich with you in the morning and eat it aloft so you don't have to interrupt your climb. And "YES" this place is that Awesome!! Us campers can walk to 3 restaurants and a Papa Johns Pizza and the Harris Teeter Deli take out.
I am renting the Amphitheater area for camping and a covered picnic area for eating, socializing and staging events. For those of you flying in or otherwise not camping you can stay on the property at several locations. My number one suggestion would be the 4 Cabins by the lake. They sleep from 5 to 7. They rent for a flat fee of $507.38 for the full 5 days and 4 nights. They come with bed linens and a furnished kitchen. So all you need are groceries from the Harris Teeter located right at the entrance to the park and you are set. There is also an up stairs apartment that sleeps 7 for $507.38 and the Guest House that sleeps 10 for $648.31. All have kitchens. The sleeping arrangements range from mostly single beds a few double beds and a few bunk beds. Call me about the layouts of each particular place. The Guest House and Apartment are located right behind the Manor House and there is a walking trail that connects directly to the Cabin climbing area. We cannot climb in the yard of the Manor House but we can climb immediately behind it. Fabulous grove of trees there, absolutely no searching for big trees, they are ALL BIG!!
I need to get my deposit in by May, 09 so I will need to get a pretty good head count as soon as possible. I will give a discount for early birds on the charge. I cannot calculate what that charge will be until I get a number of how many will be attending. The more coming the cheaper it will be, so PLEASE let me know.
I will be going down there some time this winter to map out the trees. If you want to go with me let me know and we will plan a date.
I have Joe Maher, Tobe Sherrill, Ken VanGorder "Knot Wizard", and Nick "The Splicer" (I think?) lined up as presenters. Let me know if you want to get involved as well.
Please call or email me anytime. I really like phone calls.

ps: I might have written more on the TCI site so be sure and check that one out as well.

THANKS Bob for the update and all that great information

some things that i am sure will be asked. For those that may Camp, will there be a location that we are able to cook -an area with water and power? or will all meals IF you do not share a cabin with others, be taken off site (other then non-cooked meals).

in the Camping area, are there showers and other facilities - close within a short distance? Are there picnic tables or a coverd area - OTHER then the amp theater?
If you say you want a cabin, is that up to US, those wanting it, to reserver it, and fill it? That cost being ours to take care of before hand. Or if we want one, a cabin, you might have others that will go in with that? Do we contact the Site or have you do that for us?

thanks

shari

Post Renting Cabins, etc.
Hi Shari and everyone,
There are showers about 100 yards from the Amphitheater/Camping area. We do have water and electricity at a few locations around the Amphitheater but no picnic tables. If we cook there we will have to tail gate it. We cannot cook under the amphitheater canopy. I did rent a covered picnic area about the size of the one we had in April, but we will have to drive there from the camping area. We do have plenty of parking at the picnic area. It also has water, electricity and restrooms there as well but no showers.
I would prefer that you guys rent the cabins but I could handle that if necessary. Sophia got the guest house for her crew today I think. If you want to reserve a cabin you can do that now. The lady you need to talk to is Renee and her number is 336 778 6370. Please let me know if I can help with that.
I think that covers it. Please feel free to call or email me anytime.

Post Rendezvous Canopy Camping
Hi Moss,
Sleeping in these trees would be really sweet! Hopefully I can get my ledge up there with you.
