Post Out the Kitchen Window
Have you ever wanted to climb “Out the Kitchen Window”?

It was the last day of winter here in the South. The temps were in the LOW 70’s, with light winds out of the west, the high braches of the pines were making sounds that moved across the valley. It was hard to think about packing the car and driving out of the 5 acres of woods we are on, time on the road means less time in the tree so we climbed “Out the kitchen window”, a tree not more then 30 feet from the house, a nice oak with a good branch structure. Since David was the first in the tree, he named it.

David made a nice throw and with just a little bit of playing with the lines was able to get it set just right in a V about 50 foot up. My attempts were putting me almost over the top of the tree in no climb land, one throw was CLEAR over the tree, behind me, the next was into the pine two trees over. My aim must have been off. A few more attempts and we were all set to climb.

David, being somewhat new to the type of climbing we all are comfortable with was learning the single foot lock to get into the tree, with practice by the time he reached the first set of branches he was quite comfortable with that setup.

We were in the tree for a few reasons, the property is FILLED with trees, what else might 5 acres of native woods in the Georgia Mountains be filled with? And many of them that are close to the house are in need of care that we are taking the time to dead wood them so to remove any hazards as you walk about the yard. AND with both David and my love for climbing, we are making the trees more accessible to climb.

So for the last day of winter, David and I took the time to spend some quality time in the trees on the land and to get to know more about the place we live.

Thanks all,

JZ

Post Climbing Out by the Kitchen Window.
Nothing like a good work climb day!
I have a Tree that I need to do some trimming around but I am waiting to get Tom Dunlap to come by and make some suggestions on what to remove and how to do it right. ( The expert opinion is most valuable!).
Thanks for sharing and hope you enjoy your now clean, tame trees.

The tree that inspired me every morning to learn to climb is right outside my third floor kitchen window. I've yet to climb out the window into the tree, I have gone out the attic window into the tree, does that count?

Good report JZ, climbing without driving to the tree is the best.
