Sleeping 50' high while backpacking --- PICTURES
I first must say thank you to Hunabku for posting the tutorial for a DIY hammock. It only cost $18 and 45 minutes of my life to build this hammock and with it I was able to do this trip! So thank you! It turns out that taking pictures in trees is really flipping hard with all of the leaves and branches obstructing the view but I tried my hardest to get a few descent pictures of what is now my most favorite way to explore the wilderness. Here is the story:

I followed a dried up stream into the woods a few miles until I found my tree.

Here is a picture after I got past the hardest part (for me!) about 40 feet up.

I finally got my hammock set up right as it became pitch black out.

Temperatures dropped to 29 degrees that night and I wasn't fully prepared for such cold temperatures but the morning view made up for my night of struggling with the cold. (I never thought of the fact that I can't change out of my pants if I am sleeping in a harness.)

My messy campsite.

Me being happy because I made a great choice by bringing a thick puffy vest instead of a fleece vest, haha.

And one last shot of the hammock before I took it down.
So ya, that was my trip. Again, I thank you guys SO MUCH for all of the info on this forum. The moment I got home I listed my solo tent on Ebay because I will never sleep on the ground alone again! There was 3 or 4 coyotes howling all night and if I had been sleeping on the ground I would have been peeing in my pants. But they can't get me 50 feet in the air! Hope you enjoyed this.
By the way, what do you guys call sleeping in the trees? Canopy camping? I thought that sounded catchy but I am sure there is an official term.

EDIT: I forgot to ask if anyone can tell me what kind of tree this is???
