Re: Some thoughts for the light 'kit' club...
I see everyone is very serious about this light kit business.
Since a lightweight lanyard weighs the same as a ton of bricks, and often times the rope is the heaviest thing in our climbing kits may I offer the following suggestion......Free climb the tree, no harness, no rope, no hardware, no hair, no shoelaces, no clothes, just you and the tree. Just make sure you cut your toe nails, clean your ears and puke up your lunch before getting started, all in the name of weight saving of course.

I'll never give up my short lanyard, it's only helped, never caused me any problems in any conditions. Third rope lanyard is very useful to know how to implement, just a little slow and cranky for my day-to-day climbing. Not to mention I hate creating a hanging loop of rope below me. Always balancing gear complexity or simplicity to find the sweet spot for my maximum efficiency and enjoyment climbing. Mileage varies per climber style and needs, no preconceived formula is valid from my point of view, so many scenarios call for different approaches. Ok, rogues can shoot me now, hopefully with a full clip from a Glock 37 to make it quick -AJ

Glock 37? Interesting choice. If ammo didn't cost so much for it I'd have one. Apparently you're more knowledgeable about Glocks than we thought.
I started this thread merely as a spoof. When Tom told me about guys cutting labels off of everything to save weight, I just couldn't help but think of some other 'out there' things we could do, but all intended in lightheartedness.
As for your remarks regarding the lanyard, I agree completely; one of the most useful things I use.
Don't worry about getting shot moss, we're the good guys. FWIW, that 'clip' is a magazine.

Thanks Ron, I know little about firearms, I listened to the interview on NPR yesterday with the guy who wrote a book about Glock (the inventor), very interesting, great story about a technology leap and how to penetrate and dominate a market. I took a quick look at the Glock web site and saw that the 37 was a nifty hand gun. Magazine not clip, duly noted. I've fired various small arms, Ruger, Smith and Wesson, a few others, good fun.
Anyway... back to climbing, enjoying the ultra-light conversation. -AJ
