Hans Hallman worked in horticulture for a few years and, after he moved to Portland, OR, eventually found work at a tree care service. Hed always had an interest in botany, and, while at the tree service, he learned how climbing could be fun. It seemed natural to combine what he learned about climbing trees professionally with both his recreational and scientific interests. In 2005, Hans took Joe Mahers Tropical Canopy Access Techniques course at the Institute for Tropical Ecology and Conservation (ITEC), and learned a lot about climbing in a rainforest environment. Hans is now a post-baccalaureate student in botany at Oregon State University. He hopes to continue climbing and studying tropical trees at the graduate level.
